The AARC stands for Animal Adoption and Rescue Center. Like the ark of Biblical times, it provides shelter and care for animals in need.
Relinquished animals are received, bathed, groomed, and given any necessary medical treatment. Cats are tested for feline leukemia and aids. Dogs are tested for heartworm. All are spayed or neutered, and given vaccinations and rabies shots. As long as they are healthy and adoptable, they will have a place at the AARC.
All dog kennel runs have an inside and outside area. We have over an acre of land that is fenced and each dog has a chance to run and play each day. Kittens have a special room to themselves, and neither they nor the cats are caged.
The Blue Ridge Humane Society believes in the mission of finding lifelong, appropriate homes for every pet. Prospective adopters are screened. The AARC is a first rate, state approved shelter. We are very proud of the work we do and look forward to doing more in the future. Stop by our facility for a visit.
AARC hours: Monday - Saturday from 10:00am - 5:00pm, closed Sunday
