Wildfire Update

We remain in observe and prepare mode as wildfires continue in our region. While there is no immediate threat to our facility, air quality remains very poor, and it’s important to take precautions for both you and your pets.
What you can do to protect your animals during poor air quality:
✔️Keep pets indoors as much as possible—limit outdoor time to quick potty breaks.
✔️Avoid strenuous activity, especially for older animals, flat-faced breeds, and those with respiratory or heart conditions.
✔️Use air purifiers if you have them, and keep windows and doors closed.
✔️Monitor for signs of respiratory distress: coughing, wheezing, fatigue, or difficulty breathing.
✔️Make sure pets have plenty of fresh water and a quiet, cool space to rest.
We’re continuing to build a list of potential emergency fosters and are developing a centralized list of animal resource for those evacuating. If you are in need of resources or extra pet supplies contact us at our Pet Helpline at (828) 393-5832 or email pethelpline@blueridgehumane.org.
Our team is here and ready. Our hearts are with everyone navigating the stress and uncertainty of this wildfire emergency.💙
